Journey of Faith: Young Christians in the Desert

Under the open skies of the Negev Desert and being welcomed by the Parish of Beer Sheva, participants from different communities of the St. James Vicariate for Hebrew Speaking Catholics in Israel gathered for a moving "Journey of Faith" encounter. The young people participated in the 3rd Journey of Faith, connecting them to the different parishes of the Vicariate, discovering the journeys of the parishes and building intergenerational bridges.
Hosted at the Shayarot Bedouin Camp and later continuing in Beer Sheva together with the St. Abraham Parish, the encounter formed part of the ongoing Journey of Faith initiative - a long-term process strengthening trust and social cohesion among young Christians living as a minority within Israeli society.
An interesting moment of the weekend was the interreligious encounter with Sheikh Ibrahim from the local Bedouin community.
Throughout the weekend, Fr. Roman accompanied the group spiritually with reflections centered on Abraham’s journey of trust through uncertainty. His words strengthened the participants whose own lives are marked by instability and questions of belonging.
The night, spent in a Bedouin Camp, was an unforgettable experience, as well as the camel ride in the morning, connecting the participants to the beauty of the desert.
In Beer Sheva, the group had the joy and privilege, to encounter a 75-year-old member of the local parish who shared her life story of migration, faith, and perseverance. Her testimony opened an atmosphere of deep listening and trust, encouraging many young people to speak openly, to ask personal questions.
The weekend concluded with Holy Mass and fellowship together with the local parish, a visible sign that even in fragile times, faith and human encounter continue to create hope.
