On Friday, June 3, 2011, members of our Haifa community went to the Cinematheque see a new documentary film, telling the life story of Father Romauld Jakub Weksler-Waszkinel, a friend of our Hebrew speaking kehillot. The film, titled "Torn" (Karu'ah) was screened for the first time in Tel Aviv, on May 13, 2011, during the International Documentary Film Festival "Dokaviv".

Many people came to see the film and among them – members of our Hebrew speaking communities from Jerusalem, Haifa and Tel Aviv-Jaffa. After the screening Father Jakub expressed his gratitude to the producer Ronit Kertsner and all those present. He added, that it would have been more correct to call the film "Two in One", because he is not torn by his two identities – Jewish and Christian - but, on the contrary, these two parts complement one another.

We have published an article about the life story of the Polish priest, Romauld Jakub Weksler - Waszkinel, the son of Jewish parents, who was saved and raised by a Catholic family during the Shoah.
