Holy Saturday

On this day Christians observe a day of quiet like Jews every Shabbat. The day is filled with prayer, and waiting at the tomb, commemorating Christ's rest in death and descent into hell. The altar remains bare, no Mass is celebrated during the day, and the Eucharist is not distributed except to the dying. The day ends with the night-time Easter Vigil, the pinnacle of the liturgical year.

Christ is lying in the tomb. And as is written in the Gospel of Saint Luke: "On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment" (Luke 23:56).
