Love your neighbor

Jews and Christians join together in an act of kindness towards Muslims in Ramadan

On Wednesday 29th, some members of the Jerusalem Kehillah, with their priest, Father Roman, and four children, joined some Jewish friends, in an inter-faith initiative aimed to promote in Jerusalem friendship and coexistence: the distribution of water and dates to Muslims at the end of a day of Ramadan fasting.

The idea was inspired by something that happened last year, in Nablus, when a Christian man started spontaneously to offer dates and water in the streets. A Muslim lady who saw him was so touched by such a "human" act that she told it to a Jewish friend of her. This last organized the same initiative this year, in Jerusalem.

This is how we got involved, thanks to our fellowship with Kehilat Tzion.

Between 7:45 to 8:30 P.M., in pairs, Jews and Christians wandered around the area between Damascus Gate and the New Gate and kindly approached those who were happily breaking their fasting in the street.

We were all very impressed by their reaction, by their generosity (they also offered us from their food) and by the sincere smile of gratitude.

May God bless us and our city and make us one in the human family.
