A Pilgrimage of the Parish of St. Peter in Tiberias

“What a wonderful experience, it has been a long time since we have spent time together!” was the expression of one of the parishioners of Tiberias, describing the parish pilgrimage of Saturday 25th of November.

Following in the steps of Jesus in Galilee

Feeling the desire of sharing together the experience of faith, the parish community of Tiberias organized a pilgrimage on Saturday afternoon visiting some of the most important places where Jesus also passed by during his time in Galilee. Our itinerary began in Capernaum where we were all welcomed by Fr. Fabio. Evelyn, one of the parishioners, a tour guide, explained the place from an historical and archaeological point of view. After this we read some passages of the Gospel: the healing of a paralyzed man, the healing of Simon’s mother-in law (described in the Gospel of Mark), and the speech about the bread of life and words of eternal life, given in the synagogue by Jesus (from the Gospel of John). All these episodes gave us the opportunity to pray for our sick people, for our families and for the people who are suffering in this difficult moment of the war. After the visit to the house of Peter, we moved on to the Sanctuary of the Primacy of Peter in Tabgha. Fr. Teofil, a Franciscan brother living in the Monastery, explained the history of the Sanctuary and the importance of the place, home to the Gospel event of the appearance of the risen Christ to the Apostles. The third part of our pilgrimage was in the Benedictine Monastery in Tabgha, where accompanied by Fr. Elias and Fr. Efrem, we visited the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and the Fishes.

At the end of the pilgrimage, back in the parish Church, Fr. Piotr Zelazko, Vicar of the Hebrew Speaking Catholic Vicariate, presided the Mass for the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.

After the Mass, there was a time of sharing and we concluded in an atmosphere of friendship.

We thank the Lord for the wonderful day and the precious moments together in prayer and friendship, getting to know one another better, experiencing the living Word of God and the Love of Jesus our Master, King and Lord.
