A Gathering of Generations in the Jerusalem Community

As time swiftly progresses, we find ourselves amid a significant moment – a group of adolescents emerging into adulthood.

The youngsters, once little ones stepping into the Jerusalem community at the age of 6-7, have now blossomed into almost 18-year-olds. Despite their lengthy connection to the community, only a handful truly know them on a personal level, including the esteemed veterans of the community. Recognizing this, the committee for this year has decided to organize a special meeting between the freshest members and the seasoned ones during the joyous week of Christmas.

The inspiration for this gathering sprouted from the thoughtful suggestion of our dear friend Jamie, a culinary artisan hailing from Dupalmat, who graciously volunteered to prepare a delightful dinner for the community's elders. During the committee deliberations, the idea expanded to encompass a unique opportunity for an intimate encounter between the youth and the seasoned members.

On December 28, 8 young people and 10 venerable women met at the Yosef Hatzadik Club for a festive and delectable dinner. In a heartwarming twist, the youth took on the roles of waiters, serving the delicious fare to those who, for many years, dedicated themselves to establishing, building, and serving in our cherished communities.

The evening commenced with a shared game, fostering a joyous atmosphere. As we savored the delightful feast, the gathering naturally transitioned into a dialogue that bridged the generations with questions flowing in both directions.

All, young and old alike, departed from this gathering with hearts full of joy and a fervent desire to host more such meaningful meetings in the immediate future. May these encounters continue to strengthen the bonds within our Catholic community in Jerusalem.
