A Rainy, but Joyful Pilgrimage to Nazareth

On Saturday (24.12), the Vigil of the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord the pilgrimage to Nazareth where "the Word became flesh" was an important element of the Christmas celebrations by the Russian -speaking Community in Haifa, together with fr. Michal.

The Russian-speaking Catholic community in Haifa made a visit to Nazareth, the town where the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would give birth to Jesus. They went there a few days before Christmas, when the weather was cold and rainy. The whole city was covered in fog, creating a mystical atmosphere. The pilgrims attended the Mass at the Basilica of the Annunciation, where they prayed for peace in their homeland and in the world, especially in the places affected by war. After the Mass, they were warmly welcomed by Bishop Rafik, the Vicar of the Arabic-speaking Catholics, who offered them hot coffee and tea, and a delicious cake made by the nuns. The pilgrims enjoyed the hospitality and the conversation with the bishop, who is familiar with their community in Haifa. They hope to visit Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus, next year, if the situation allows.
