Blessing and her friends in the Vicariate

Since September 2014, the Saints Simeon and Anne House, seat of the Saint James Vicariate and Jerusalem kehilla, has an additional vocation: a day care center for Blessing and her friends.

Blessing was born with some severe birth defects including the inability to breathe without oxygen. Her mother, a single migrant worker mother, was unable to work because she had to stay with her baby. The Vicariate team decided to help, watching over Blessing for long hours, permitting her mother to work.

Soon other migrant mothers, many of them single, came to ask whether they could leave their babies at the Vicariate too. There is a severe lack of proper day care services for migrant women in Israel. Sister Claudia Graziano set to work, supported by Father David. The babies started arriving brought by their mothers, Filipinas, Indians, Sri Lankans, Africans and even little Sophy, whose parents belong to the Jerusalem kehilla. Blessing was soon surrounded by playmates, all under three and some as young as just a few months old.

The volunteers started arriving too. Sister Claudia is now assisted by Nicole as well as Sister Nabiha and the novices of Our Lady of Zion.
