Booklet for Lent 2024

As we enter the Lenten season, a period marked by preparation, introspection, and repentance leading up to the celebrations of Holy Week, SJV has undertaken a special project to support our community members, as well as others, on their spiritual journey during these forty days.

Our booklet, crafted in Hebrew, provides a brief overview of Lent, daily Scripture readings, accompanying prayers, and reflections on the Gospel passages. Beginning on Ash Wednesday and concluding on Easter Sunday, it serves as a companion for individuals seeking to deepen their connection with God during this sacred season.

The booklet's purpose is to encourage members of our faith communities to set aside moments each day for quiet reflection and communion with God, particularly amidst life's challenges in the Holy Land. While navigating life's trials may sometimes lead us astray, this booklet serves as a modest yet significant tool to help us realign our focus on God, emphasizing the importance of prayer, fasting (temporarily abstaining from distractions), and acts of charity.

Additionally, we are mindful of Pope Francis's touching Lenten message for 2024, "Through the Desert God Leads Us to Freedom," which draws parallels to the Israelites' journey from Egypt—a story emblematic of liberation, revelation, and spiritual growth.

May this Lenten season afford us all the opportunity to prepare our hearts and souls, seek forgiveness, and draw closer to God's guiding light.

All interested in receiving the booklet might ask their parish priests, responsible for the Communities or request one trough the Secretary of the Vicariate.
