Father Apolinary sent us a report on a special cake baking workshop in the Jaffa kehilla.

On Saturday, June 15, 2013, a mousse cake baking seminar was held in Saint Peter’s Church in Jaffa. A member of the kehilla, with a background as a baker, assisted by his partner, directed the workshop and a number of members of the kehilla participated.

Some of the participants prepared cakes on the spot whereas others observed the process. Everyone learnt the secrets of preparing cakes according to professional standards. They produced a number of different kinds of chocolate mousse cakes and revealed great talent in internalizing the new information. After having learnt the basics they received instructions on how to make different kinds of mousse and directions on how to diversify the cakes that they could make in the future, each one according to his or her own imagination.

Once the cakes were prepared, mass was celebrated as usual after which all the members of the kehilla were invited to view how to decorate the cakes with a chocolate overlay in different shapes. There was much cheering on.

At the end of the decorating process, two large cakes were cut and distributed to the members of the kehilla to their great delight.

The greatest part of the fun was to see the children enthusiastically eating the melted chocolate off the plates after having eaten their share of the delicious cake.

At the end of the evening, the proud bakers took their cakes home for the enjoyment of their families.
