The Feast of the Ascension in the Kehilla

Members of the kehilla, mostly from the Jerusalem community, went to the Dome of the Ascension on the top of the Mount of Olives today, the feast of the Ascension, May 21, 2009, in order to pray the prayer of the feast in Hebrew.

The mass was celebrated by Father David, Vicar of the Kehilla, and by Father Apolinary, responsible for the community in Jerusalem and by Father Simon-Pierre. About 40 members of the kehilla and other acquaintances participated in the prayer. Because of the delays at the place, the mass took place outside, under the same skies that received Jesus into them two thousand years ago.

ascension4

The Ascension of the Lord leaves a void in the world and our vocation is to fill it. A great responsibility is placed upon our shoulders and we can only pray ever more fervently that we be faithful to the same Lord that expects us to be his body and thus do his acts.

ascension2

The songs in Hebrew mixed with those in Arabic from the Latin parish from the Old City who celebrated their mass at the same time in the shrine. We had another sign of pluralism of the Church of Jerusalem, called to be one united body.
