Interfaith Olive Harvest at the Benedictine Monastery

The olive harvesting season is upon us. Some religious communities require assistance to gather all the fruits, and often, locals volunteer to participate in the harvest. This is the story of Nadav.

On Wednesday, October 30th, inspired by the Holy Spirit and in an atmosphere of interfaith peace, four members of the Jaffa community volunteered to pick olives at the Benedictine monastery on the Mount of Olives. Responding to the call of Yiska Harani, a Jewish teacher specializing in Christianity, the volunteers assisted the elderly nuns with this important task.

The volunteering effort extended beyond the Jaffa community, as they were joined by individuals from around the world. Among the volunteers were a woman from France residing in Jordan, a French journalist, a Jewish teacher, and participants from the Philippines, Italy, and Mexico.

Working together joyfully, the group formed a bond through their shared labor, accompanied by the intoxicating aroma of olives. This cooperation led to a significant experience that strengthened inter-religious ties and fostered a deep sense of community. The event stands as a testament to interfaith unity and solidarity in Jerusalem.
