Jerusalem lost a great man of the Bible and of the Land

Father Jacques Fontaine passed away at the age of 98

Born in Roubaix (France) on July 13, 1921, Father Jacques Fontaine, a Dominican, is a great figure of Jerusalem and a friend of the Hebrew Speaking Catholic communities. He took part in the foundation of St Isaiah House (where the Kehilla of Jerusalem used to gather for the Eucharistic celebration until 1998) and he founded the "Bible sur le Terrain" (Bible on the Ground) which allowed, and still allows, many to taste the Word of God and to live it.

During the "Bible sur le Terrain" (Bible on the Ground) trips, every pilgrim, Bible in hand, discovered God's plan, which is our history, our personal history and the history of the Church. Then everyone used to leave Jerusalem without ever leaving it, because they had discovered that this story is their own story, and had found fellow travelers named David, Jeremiah, Zechariah ... with them they were moving towards the city of which God is the founder and the architect ...

We celebrated his 70 years of ordination on July 18, 2018. He joined the Father's house on Thursday, March 21, 2019. May his memory be for a blessing.Jacques Fontaine
