The first of five holy Masses in the places connected to Jesus' passion was celebrated in the Basilica of Gethsemane, also called the Church of the Agony.

Ten faithful of the Jerusalem kehilla gathered on Friday, March 14, 2013, in the morning in this place, which commemorates Jesus' prayer on the night of his arrest. The faithful gathered around the bedrock where Jesus is said to have spent the night. Fr. Rafic was the main celebrant of the mass that underlined the need for more intense prayer during this liturgical period of Lent.

The other Masses will be celebrated in the churches of the Flagellation, Saint Peter in Gallicantu, Ecce Homo and at Calvary.
