galilee trip

On Wednesday, July 8, children from the Jerusalem kehilla set off on a day trip to the Galilee. We were 38 children of different ages, six counsellors, Daniele, Rosela, Sister Claudia, Sister Sara, Nomi and Blanche, together with Father Rafic, in charge of the Jerusalem kehilla. We had planned to set off at 8.00 but not everyone arrived exactly on time although we did eventually set off. Our first stop was the Church of the Multiplication in Tabgha. There we remembered the event told in the Gospel and we saw the ancient mosaics preserved in the church, especially the famous mosaic of the two fish and the basket of bread. (This is the church that was attacked some weeks ago when anonymous persons burnt some rooms of the monastery).

After this, we went to the site of the Primacy of Peter. There, Jesus, after his Resurrection, gave Peter the task of feeding his sheep. In this place, we sat down for lunch and for a short time of games. At 14.00, we went to Capernaum and there we saw the remains of the house of Peter, which later became a church. We also visted the ancient synagogue and remembered the long homily of Jesus about his body given as bread of life for the believers.

Then, we went to the Greek Orthodox site of Capernaum and visited the Church of the Twelve Apostles, whose walls and ceilings are covered with icons. We also spent some time looking at the garden of the monks who live there, and we spent some time with the peacocks who refused to spread their glorious tails for us. Our last stop was the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth. From there we returned to Jerusalem, our eyes full of the sites of Galilee and our ears ringing with the shouts of our sweet children.
