News from the Beer Sheba kehilla

Father Piotr, responsible for the Beer Sheba kehilla, reports:

pau lectures

The community in Beer Sheba started a series of lectures on the archeology of ancient Christianity. A member of the community, Professor Pau Figueras from Ben Gurion University agreed to guide a few meetings in order to show early Christian art and the historical findings from ancient times. Pau projected photographs, commenting and answering questions. During the time of the lectures, Hanna, his wife and mother of five and grandmother of many, takes care of the children, playing and drawing with them.

Ash Wednesday gathered many parishioners who together started the period of Lent. In his homily, Father Piotr underlined the freedom that the Church gives to her members in the choice of penance practices. "We gather together as a community of people of various traditions. The customs of the Eastern and Western Churches are to be respected and cherished in your families and homes according to your descent and background. Nevertheless, try to stop for a minute and discover what is the kind of life that God may invite you to in this period of Lent. Decide wisely, according to your own experience of a personal prayer. Respect your tradition, but also be open to the new ways that the Lord offers you today".

During the period of Lent, the traditional prayer called "The Way of the Cross" is celebrated in the Beer Sheba community twice a week: one time in Arabic, one time in Hebrew language. The community plans also a Lent trip to Jerusalem in March.
