Walking the Way of the Cross together

Members of the Jaffa and Jerusalem Hebrew speaking communities walked the Way of the Cross together, guided by Father Apolinary, responsible for the Jaffa kehilla.

On Saturday, March 2, 2013, members of the Jaffa and Jerusalem kehillot participated in the Way of the Cross. This traditional prayer is a pilgrimage through the fourteen stations that describe the last steps of Jesus’ earthly life (see the Stations here). The group of about 30 adults and children, gathered at the Franciscan Monastery of the Flagellation to begin their special Lenten prayer.

The individual meditations were prepared and read by the members of the kehillot (seven from Jaffa and seven from Jerusalem). The crowded streets of the Old City were not easy to navigate but the group stuck together and went on with determination. The final point of the prayer was the Church of the Resurrection (the Holy Sepulcher), which was packed with hundreds of pilgrims and tourists. Fr. Apolinary explained here some moments from the history of the Basilica.

This was another, but not the last, event of this year's preparations for the Feast of the Resurrection.
