The situation in Beer Sheba

We print here a short report written by Salma, a young teenager from the Beer Sheba community, regarding the events in the south of the country over the past few days.

On Sunday of this week, March 11, 2012, we held Sunday mass in the bomb shelter as a result of a decision taken by Father Gioele and Father Olivier. The background to the decision was that a Grad missile fell in the area – just 150 meters from the kehilla's home.

The situation in Beer Sheba is not normal. After three and a half years, the residents are not used to such a high frequency of sirens as has taken place over the past few days.

In the south, there were no studies for the first three days of the week. Among us, children, we were quite happy that there was no school however our parents were those who really suffered because of their anxiety for us children, who they left at home because they had to go to work. In addition, the parents were troubled by another thought too: "Will we get to work with no siren in the middle of the journey?"

Now things are quiet and school has already resumed. There is a ceasefire between the two sides and we thank God for that.

* Since the writing of the report by Salma, school has again been cancelled (for Thursday, March 15, 2012) as the hostilities have resumed. We continue to pray...
