Hannukah Camp (Kaytana) December 2022

During the Hannukah vacation the kids of St. James participated in the Christmas Camp (Kaytana) in Deir Rafat. Twenty kids, twenty-seven youth and fourteen adults created together an amazing event just before Christmas. Deacon Igino reports:

This year, as we are used to do, taking advantage of the school’s vacations, we had the occasion to organize a Hannukah Camp for the youth of the Vicariate. The Camp was held in Deir Rafat, from the 19 of December to the 21. In this occasion we welcomed children from 6 years old to 15 years old. Divided into four groups, the children carried out many activities, very well organized and prepared by some of the volunteers and the youth itself, among all a “bracelets-making” laboratory was held, a laboratory of music and one of art, in which the children were able to realize paintings and other craftwork concerning the feast that we were about to celebrate: Christmas. This feast was also the background of the meditations lead by fr. Benny, that were marking the rhythms of the games and of the free time, allowing these children to enter in a deeper way in the mystery of the Incarnation, and to get closer to this God that chose to become like one of these little ones. Fundamental moments were also the Holy Masses that we celebrated, both at the beginning and at the ending of the Camp. A great Grace I would like to underline is witnessing how the “old ones” among the children were allowed to guide the youngest ones as guides in the group and seeing how they carried out this task with passion and responsibility. Needless to say, this Camp was a grace of God and an occasion to see how he does everything good!

We would like to thank all the volunteers that dedicated their time to be with us and took care of the children, youth, kitchen, logistics, transportation, etc.

Many thanks to the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher of Toronto Lieutenancy who supported financially this year's Hannukah/Christmas Camp.
