“Going up to Jerusalem”: a new game for kids in every age
Our Deacon Benny invented, drew and realized a role-game. Here he presents it to us
The game is played like any other role-game: a rolling dice to advance, some steps help, some others fail. In the beginning every player receives a budget in coins that will help him buy food for the way, and also pay the diverse fines and taxes that may come up during the pilgrimage.
In order to advance, the players will be asked to say some prayers, to give alms to other players, to sings hymns, or to tell Bible stories. Another way to win coins consists in identifying Bible characters or events represented in the cards.
Beside the players there are several characters acting in the game (the shepherd, the generous woman, King Herod, Lazarus, the Prophet, the Roman soldier…) some of them are good, some others, bad. Above all there is Jesus (who can free from jail, heal from leper and protect from dangers), Mother Mary who accompanies and protects on the way, and the guardian angel.
The game is based on sound human values, since “Going up to Jerusalem” has one main goal: to reach the Holy City, but not alone! Every player must, in fact, make sure that another players reaches there with him.
The aim is that through this game, our kids learn the importance of friendship, and the mutual help. In the meantime they will learn religious and spiritual content.
Everybody is invited to join our journey to Jerusalem.
