Youth go up from Jaffa to Jerusalem

From Saturday, September 12 until Tuesday, September 15, 2015, four young people and two priests walked from Jaffa to Jerusalem.

jerusalem jaffa walk

We began our voyage in Jaffa, from the Church of Saint Peter, and we ended in Jerusalem, at the Church of the Resurrection (Holy Sepulcher). The voyage lasted four days, during the Rosh HaShana (Jewish New Year) vacations.

We walked the way of the first pilgrims, those who used to ascend from the port of Jaffa to Jerusalem, feeling on the way as those pilgrims felt – the sensation that with each step we are approaching our destination. The voyage was one incredible experience and we learnt to deeply appreciate the feeling of those pilgrims – ascending on foot to Jerusalem as we overcome all the obstacles in the way.

Finally, we reached the Church of the Resurrection and we had mass there to celebrate the sixty years of our Hebrew speaking communities and to prayer for the youth group “Desert Flower” and all its members.

To conclude, we want to thank all those people who hosted us during the voyage: those in the Franciscan convent in Ramleh, those in the Franciscan convent in Ein Karem and Father Wieslaw who gave us a place to sleep in Latroun. We also want to thank Father Apolinary and Father Piotr without whom we would never have undertaken this incredible journey.
