Election Day in Israel – Prayer and hope

On Tuesday, February 10, 2009, the citizens of the State of Israel go to the election boxes in order to elect their representatives, a prime minister, a government and members of the Knesset who will decide our future.

We want to pray and to hope that the results of the elections will bring an opening to a better future. We suggest a prayer like the one we used on Independence Day in a slightly adapted format.

Our Father in heaven, Rock of Israel and Israel's Redeemer, bless the State of Israel, protect it and spread over it and over all its neighbors the tent of Your peace. May peace increase more and more among all peoples so that there be no more hate, no more jealousy, no more competition and no more victory one over another, one over his neighbor.

Send Your light and Your truth to all the candidates for the Knesset and give them Your wisdom so that they might walk in the ways of justice and peace.

Send your Holy Spirit on all the residents of the State so that they might live in unity, in bonds of fraternity and devotion to each until we might gather together each one with his friend.

Help especially the weakest in the society to find their place, to find a way to make a living in dignity and uprightness.

All this we pray to you in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son and our Lord who lives for ever. Amen.

We suggest here some pieces of music and prayer to accompany this day:
