Vicar's Call for a Prayer for Peace

The Vicar of St. James, Fr. Piotr, calls upon every member of SJV to engage in intense prayer for Peace, emphasizing that "Acts of terrorism are never justifiable".

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

The last two days marked a dark date in the history of humanity, a grievous assault on human dignity.

Terrorism is an act of evil. Even when some ideology or the desire to create a better society is put forward as the motivation for this inhumane behavior, acts of terrorism can never be justified. Confronted with such horror and suffering, I implore all our faithful to stand united in prayer. Let our prayers accompany all the grieving families, all those who anxiously await news of their loved ones. May the Lord wipe away their tears and offer them solace. May His Mercy and Love enfold those who are suffering: the wounded ones and those who are mourning.

I invite everyone to maintain constant prayer during these days, using the words of Psalm 122:

A Pilgrim’s Prayer for Jerusalem

1 A song of ascents. Of David.

I rejoiced when they said to me,

“Let us go to the house of the Lord.”

2 And now our feet are standing

  within your gates, Jerusalem.

3 Jerusalem, built as a city,

  walled round about.

4 There the tribes go up,

  the tribes of the Lord,

As it was decreed for Israel,

to give thanks to the name of the Lord.

5 There are the thrones of justice,

the thrones of the house of David.

6 For the peace of Jerusalem pray:

“May those who love you prosper!

7 May peace be within your ramparts,

  prosperity within your towers.”

8 For the sake of my brothers and friends I say,

  “Peace be with you.”

9 For the sake of the house of the Lord, our God,

  I pray for your good.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

As we, Christians living in Israel pray for Peace I would like to remind the words of Pope John Paul II who said: "What Christianity forbids is to seek solutions (…) by the way of hatred, by the murdering of defenseless people, by the methods of terrorism".

We must believe that "the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it". May this dark hour not take away our courage and hope.

May God bless us and our country and bestow upon everyone His Peace.

Fr. Piotr
