Negev Interfaith Initiative Meeting

On Sunday, October 1st, Father Roman and the volunteer of the Be'er Sheva community attended the meeting of the interfaith initiative in the Negev, which was held in the Sukkah of the Eshel Avraham Synagogue in Be'er Sheva.

This year, in the context of the tension in Arab society, which is going through a difficult time marked by many murders, the people who gathered for the celebration of Sukkot discussed the topic of good and evil in the world. During the discussion, Harold Kushner's book "When Bad Things Happen to Good People" was presented. Naturally, the figure of Job was also brought into the conversation, which raised another difficult topic, that of the existence and actions of Satan. The members suggested discussing this topic at the next meeting and continued to talk about the difficulty of understanding and dealing with evil in the world. The idea was proposed considering less the faucet of evil from a philosophical or theological point of view and more to look for practical solutions on how to improve the situation and what to do to help society change and move in the right direction. Unfortunately, there are no quick and easy solutions to fix this world.

We all agreed that it is worth looking for help before God, but here too we saw that representatives of different religions have a different approach about God, talking to Him and learning about His guidance in our world. Nevertheless, it is he who unites us, the Jews, the Muslims and the Christians, and we all believe that with his help, in one way or another, we can defeat evil and rejoice in good.
