Bringing life where there is no hope of life

Marian Rashed, a teacher and mother of two, writes to us from the Beer Sheba kehilla.

Sarah, wife of our father Abraham, had already lost hope of ever having a child. Moreover, she had physical, biological proof that there was no way that she could have a child. Medicine and all its doctors are unable, even with all their wisdom, to bring life where there is none. What we are unable to comprehend with our minds, makes us laugh, a laugh that indicates loss of hope, despair, a laugh that is neither funny nor happy. And then God begins to work. Here He has the chance to remind the human person that He created him from dust, He breathed into him the breath of life when we were fated to be silent. We were a clump of earth and then He brings us back to His wisdom – Yes, God is all powerful.

How often do we lose hope because of the difficulties that we face: we stand up and we say no! It cannot be, there is no solution to this problem! This difficulty is unbearable! In other words, we say that our wisdom is exhausted, the wisdom we have as human beings to solve problems. The question is whether we despair and lower our heads or whether we lift our head high and our eyes to heaven, on high, to the God who created us from dust, who knows our limitations and who is the only one who can give us what is "impossible". Do we turn to God, Creator of the world, asking him to help us to bring life there where there is none? Do we remember Him?

To praise God when our hands are empty drives Satan mad! Yes, when we are in the heart of the difficulty and the means at our disposal to solve the problem are exhausted… then, at that precise moment, we oblige ourselves to kneel down in our hearts that cry and call to God, the great and all-powerful. Satan is astonished – how do you praise God who is not with you? How do you praise God who gave you nothing? How do you praise God who put you in this situation? Evil does not understand and will never understand the kind of love that binds us to our heavenly Father. A very special relationship, of a father who is concerned and who knows what we need before we even op-en our lips to ask. He reads our hearts and knows exactly what we need. At the right time, He will give us what we want, what will allow us to lift up our eyes and open the palms of our hands… a tear rolls from our eyes, a tear of joy, and we thank you, God and we praise Your name for ever.
