The survey concluded that 53% of Israelis define themselves as secular*, 26$ as traditional and 21% as ultra or modern Orthodox. Among young people, up until 34 years old, 30% defined themselves as ultra or modern Orthodox whereas with regard to those over 50 only 15% defined themselves in these categories. The higher proportion of ultra and modern Orthodox among those under 34 years of age is due to the larger number of children among ultra and modern Orthodox families as compared to secular families.
* Secular in Israel refers to someone who does not keep the religious commandments like observing Sabbath or eating according to Jewish dietary regulation.
