Proposal of the Patriarch for the Lent Season 2023

This year, His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, in his letter of January 6th, proposed for the whole Local Church to read in its entirety the Gospel of Luke during Lent, and the Acts of the Apostles during Easter. In addition to the Scripture to be read during Lenten prayers, and Sunday Mass. This will enable us in attaining a greater knowledge of the Good News and in particularly the Book of Acts, during the season of Easter.

On Ash Wednesday (22.02), the Lent season begins. During this period of time, we make acts of repentance and shift our daily routine to return to God’s presence. It is an important period where we can increase our knowledge and understanding of the faith, by reading the Holy Scriptures (Pope Francis, Motu proprio Aperuit Illis, 15), which “is a lamp to our feet and a light to our paths” (Ps 119:105).

The picture attached shows a reading chart for the division of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, distributed on the days of the week, except Sundays and feast days, where we hope you will hear the Word of God and the prayers said during the time of celebrations.
