Ofek to be deported today

Ofek, a four year old girl born to Filipino migrant worker parents, is to be deported to the Philippines today, Thursday, August 25, after an Israeli court approved the deportation.

Ofek and her mother were dramatically removed from the airplane that was to deport them because a judge ruled in favor of Ofek’s father’s appeal that he had not been able to bid farewell to his daughter. Mrs. Sarah Netanyahu, wife of the Israeli prime minister, pleaded for clemency, arguing that the child was born in Israel, speaks fluent Hebrew and has never been to the Philippines.

The upholding of the deportation order puts into question the future of other children of migrant workers under the age of six. We continue to pray for these children and their future.
