HaAretz, the Israeli daily, in its English edition of July 7, 2010, carried a story on new research on Pope Pius XII that might change attitudes to the war-time Pope.

Ivan Wraneticz, Righteous Gentile, dies

Wraneticz, who was from the ex-Yugoslavia, hid Jews in his home during the Shoah and then immigrated to Israel. He was he chairman of the Association of Righteous Gentiles in Israel.

Martin Gilbert on Pope Pius XII

Distinguished English Jewish historian, Sir Martin Gilbert, has published an editorial in HaAretz (5.12.2008) urging all to wait patiently until the Vatican archives are opened so that the truth about Pope Pius XII's wartime activity can indeed be revealed. Gilbert, who is also an authority on Christians who saved Jews during the Shoah, reveals himself again as a voice of moderation.

Death of Irena Sendler - Righteous Pole

This morning, Monday 12.5.2008, Irena Sendler, a Polish Catholic, credited with saving 2500 Jewish children during the Shoah died in a Warsaw hospital. May she rest in peace... z"l.
