Sr. Anne-Catherine Avril RIP

Sr. Anne Catherine joined her Lord on Saturday, April 12th. Her dedication to Jewish studies, as well as her presence in the Jerusalem Kehila, makes her passing a deeply hurtful moment for us all.

Anne-Catherine Avril, a religious sister of Notre Dame de Sion, spent 50 years in Israel. She held a Master’s degree in Theology with a specialization in Jewish Studies. She studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where she was trained in the Jewish way of study and sharing. She taught rabbinic tradition and Jewish liturgy in Jerusalem and at Bethlehem University.

In the name of the Vicariate, Fr. Piotr sent a condolence letter to the Community of NDS. We present the content of the letter:

Dear Sr. Paule and the Notre Dame de Sion community,

It is with deep sorrow that we gather to honor the life of Sr. Anne Catherine, who has joined her Lord on the sacred day of Shabbat, just hours before the Seder. Sr. Anne Catherine was a beacon of faith and compassion, touching the lives of many with her unwavering dedication and love.

Her commitment to the Vicariate of St. James was marked by her tireless service and profound spirituality. She embodied the values of our faith, always striving to bring hope and comfort to those around her. Her legacy will continue to inspire us as we remember her kindness, wisdom, and the light she brought into our lives.

Sr. Anne Catherine was deeply united with and dedicated to the St. James Vicariate. Her work and spirit have left an indelible mark on our community. I hope that the St. James Vicariate will always remain a natural home for all the Notre Dame de Sion sisters, fostering unity and faith.

As we come together in Eucharist, let us celebrate Sr. Anne Catherine's journey to eternal peace and keep her spirit alive in our hearts. May her soul rest in the loving embrace of the Lord.

In communion with Anne and all of you,
