Interfaith Panel Discussion in Shalem College


A delegation of American Muslim Women Leaders and dozens of Israeli college students participated in the panel discussion in the Academic Center Shalem College in Jerusalem. An imam, a priest and a rabbi discussed the role of faith leaders in promoting peace.


On November 15th fr. Piotr Zelazko, Patriarcal Vicar of St. James, together with imam dr Talib M. Shareef and rabbi dr Yaakov Nagen took part in a panel discussion organized by Sharaka, an NGO working for the bonds between Israel and its neighbors in the Middle East and North Africa.

Mr. Shareef is the President and Imam of the Nations Mosque, Masjid Muhammad in Washington, DC. He is a retired US Airforce member with more than 30 years of service. Rabbi Nagen is the Director of Ohr Torah Stone's Blickle Institute for Interfaith Dialogue and the Beit Midrash for Judaism and Humanity. He is active in Jewish-Muslim Dialogue.

The discussion was moderated by Mrs. Vivian Bercovici, the former Ambassador of Canada in Israel and its topic was: The Role of Religious Leadership in Civilizational Bridge Building.

The speakers discussed among other topics the place of religions in public life, their role in searching for solutions of conflicts and the concept of unity versus uniformity.
