Father David on the eve of Shavuot in Tel Aviv

Many Jews spend the entire night of Shavuot in study and this is traditionally called "Tikkun Layl Shavuot".

scriptureFather David, Patriarchal Vicar for the Hebrew speaking Catholic communities in Israel, was invited to participate in a night of study (during the night of 18–19 May) in the religious academy "Iyyun" in central Tel Aviv, founded and directed by Rabbi Roberto Arbib. The Iyyun Academy of the Conservative (Masorti) movement in Tel Aviv was opened in 1993 with the aim of opening up Jewish sources to whoever might be interested and to develop creative directions of thinking in order to renew Jewish culture. The academy deals with the living encounter between Jewish creativity and the development of Jewish-Israeli culture.

This year, the theme of the Shavuot study was: "Between love and judgment: Relations between spirit and law in Judaism, Christianity and Islam". Father David participated in the first Tikkun (between 22.00 to midnight) alongside Rabbi Prof. Yehoyada Amir and Shaykh Umar Rayis. He chose as the title of his lecture: "Love of Torah and the Torah of Love".
