Blessed are all they that take refuge in him (Ps 2:12)

T. from the Haifa kehilla reflects on the feasts we have just celebrated.

Every year, on September 4, the Catholic Church celebrates the memorial of Saint Moses Giver of the Law. This year, the day of memorial coincided with the eve of Rosh ha-Shana, the Jewish New Year. In a wonderful way these two events are united in the Word of God: ”And next, the Lord spoke to Moses, bidding him tell the Israelites: You must keep the first day of the seventh month as a day of rest; it shall be proclaimed holy with blowing of trumpets, to keep the Lord in mind of you” (Lev 23:23-24).

What does the simple human heart long for? – For peace and prosperity. Let us pray for peace, prosperity, that we and our suffering neighboring countries need so much, in the hope that our prayers will help to make the coming year sweet like an apple in honey, plentiful like a pomegranate and beautiful like the flowers of our country. And in the Year of Faith let us do not stop saying to the Lord: “But for all those who trust in you there is joy and everlasting triumph; welcome protection they have from you, true lovers of your name. Lord, you give your benediction to the just; you throw your loving-kindness about us like a shield” (Ps 5:12-13).

Amen!
