Taizé: Fills the heart with hope

D, a member of the youth group “Desert Flower”, returned from Taizé and wrote:

When one comes to a place where five thousand young people who believe in Jesus pray three times a day, eat, study and work together, it fills the heart with hope and joy! At Taizé we were surrounded by a lot of love, team work, simplicity and generosity that indeed reminded us of how important it is to act in this way in our daily lives.

There were two things that I liked most at Taizé: firstly, the three times of prayer each day because it allowed not only the body to calm down but also the soul. It gave time to learn about oneself, about others and to deepen the relationship with God. The second thing was the silence, especially silence together with five thousand other people in the same place, each one silent in himself and with God yet constituting one large body that shares the silence together. At the same time, everyone prays to God but instead of by speaking or singing by means of the heart. It is an incredibly wonderful sensation of unity!
