Shoshana: Our Father

Shoshana, a member of the Jerusalem kehilla, shares with us her meditation on the "Our Father" and her prayers.

Our Father, Who is in Heaven

Hallowed be thy Name: in every person created in Your image

Thy kingdom come: to every home, every land, every people

Thy will be done: and not our will

in earth as it is in heaven: in every heart, in every soul, in every plant and living thing, in the entire cosmos and universe.

Give us this day our daily bread: grant that our food might be like that of Your Son, who said to his disciples when they saw him speaking to the Samaritan woman: "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work".

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us: just as you died for us and forgave our sins when we were still sinners, might we also forgive with all our heart those who have sinned against us.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil: Lord Jesus, we know and are tempted by all kinds of temptations and we see how you rescue us from every evil and how you are with us always so that we might bear witness to your greatness and your infinite mercy. You are all powerful! Before those who suffer and lose hope… and in all our temptations, your infinite power and wisdom are revealed, just as you speak to us through the Scriptures – you do everything through us and in us for your greater glory and happy indeed are we! Your indescribable gift is to enter into your kingdom forever.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever: Thank you for giving us this prayer that prepares our fingers for war against your enemy who is the enemy of everyone. Thank you, that you give us your Holy Spirit, which guides us, helps us, consoles us on our way towards you until the day that we shall see each other face to face.

Amen. Maranatha!
