Like a prayer – a song of Limor Oved

Orit, a friend from Jerusalem, sent us a song by Limor Oved, lyrics written by the poet Ehud Manor. The words say: “a prayer to God changes the one who prays”.

pray

Every word,
Whispered, hummed,
Every word,
Broken in a storm,
Is a prayer.
Every word,
That the heart cries or sighs,
Towards a faraway home or a forgotten dream,
In any tongue
Is a prayer.

Perhaps God on high
Does not even hear
What our mouths mumble
But a prayer to God changes the one who prays.

It is a prayer
That continues all the way
It is a prayer
That speaks and acts
It is a prayer
That I say to myself
A prayer
For the welfare of my loved ones, my own welfare
That I carry in me
To the end of the journey.

Perhaps God on high…

There is a prayer
That begins the morning
There is a prayer
That concludes the day
A prayer for light
Heat
Peace.
