Little Sister Ora

Ora, Little Sister of Jesus was born Marie-Ange in 1936 in Yzeure in the Allier to a large, Catholic family.

Her first encounter with the Shoah was during a visit to the Vel' d’hiver Stadium in Paris, the place where thousands of Jews were rounded up on the eve of July 16, 1942. Ora arrived in Jerusalem in 1964 and began to learn Hebrew and to discover the riches of Jewish tradition and life. She took in everything with an open heart and always insisted that her faith and prayer were enriched and deepened as a result of her life in Israel. Ora worked together with Little Sister Aliza as a potter for twelve years. Later, she volunteered in a residence for handicapped adults, “Magen” where she contributed much to the quality of life of its residents.

Ora participated in all aspects of the life of the Hebrew speaking Catholic community. She assisted in animating prayer and is especially remembered for her singing which contributed greatly to the prayerful atmosphere. Likewise, she is remembered for her creativity and the joy she brought to parties and celebrations.

Ora passed away on April 4, 2006 and she is sorely missed.
