New president for the State of Israel


On Tuesday, June 10, 2014, the Knesset elected a new president for the State of Israel and he is Reuven Rivlin.

Reuven Rivlin, 74 years old, a lawyer and a member of the Likud Party, is a politician who began his service in the Knesset as a member in 1988. Before that he had served as deputy mayor of Jerusalem. He also served as Minister of Communications but in the past years he has been the Speaker of the Knesset.

He replaces Shimon Peres who is now retiring at the age of 90.
