Vigil prayer in Vicariate on eve of 2015

On December 31, 2014, eve of the Feast of the Circumcision of Jesus, of the World Day of Peace and of the Feast of the Maternity of Mary, the Saint James Vicariate hosted a prayer vigil in the Saints Simeon and Anne House in Jerusalem.

Many friends of the Vicariate came to pray for peace on the eve of the beginning of 2015. The prayer from 21.30 to just after midnight took the form of a reading of the entire Gospel according to Saint Mark, the Gospel that will be heard in the new liturgical year each Sunday. The reading was in Hebrew and in a number of other languages including Greek, Arabic, French, English, Spanish, Tigrinye, Korean and Vietnamese.

Father Joseph Doan Nguyen, superior of the Jesuit community in Jerusalem, was invited to share a short reflection on the Gospel.

The prayer vigil ended with the Our Father recited in the numerous languages represented in the assembly. On exiting the chapel, those present drank a toast to 2015 with the prayer that it would be a year of peace.
