Armenian Patriarch visits Pope Francis


On Thursday, May 8, 2014, Patriarch Karekin II, head of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Armenia, visited Pope Francis.

Pope Francis and the Armenian Patriarch have met before both in Rome and in Argentina, when Pope Francis was still Archbishop of Buenos Aires.

In his words to the Patriarch, the Pope spoke of an “ecumenism of suffering and martyrdom” which underlines the importance of unity of the Church. He stressed the important place of the Armenian martyrs of the 20th century in the history of the Church.

The two took a time of prayer in the Redemptoris Mater Chapel.
