Musicians’ encounter

Eran sent us a report on the days Friday and Saturday (May 2 and 3), during which the musicians of the kehillot gathered in Casa Nova in Tiberias for two days of common work, study and prayer.

Father Rafic and Benny, the seminarian, prepared the encounter, whose theme was the liturgy of Lent and Easter.

On Friday, we arrived in Tiberias in the late hours of the evening and we gathered in order to discuss the question: “What is liturgy for me?” as well as the relationship between liturgy and music. The day was brought to a close with mass and night prayer.

Saturday was a full day that began with a special morning prayer, during which each participant renewed his or her baptismal promises. As the day went on, Father Rafic taught us about Lent and how the Church had experienced this period over the years and through the various liturgical reforms. We also discussed the liturgy of Holy Week and Easter.

Thereafter, the participants presented new and wonderful songs that they had written and put to music. It was a joy to discover again the outpouring of gifts and the variety that exist in our communities.

In the afternoon, we prayed and meditated on the Gospel for Sunday, Luke 24:13-35.

The day was brought to a close with a festive mass on the occasion of the Feast of Saint James, the patron of the kehillot. We were delighted to meet the members of the Tiberias kehilla, who greeted us warmly.

We thank the community of Koinonia John the Baptist that welcomed us and helped us with all our needs and for the tasty food they prepared for the meals.
