Beit Marom moves to new premises

Beit Marom, a center to promote relations between Jews and Christians, moved to new premises in downtown Jerusalem and opened its activities with an evening dedicated to the French Jewish thinker Andre Neher on Monday, April 7, 2014.

The Marom Association was established due to the generosity of Marion Reich, member of the Jerusalem kehilla, who on her death in 1977 left her possessions to a group of friends who founded the association to promote dialogue among the religions. Beit Marom was bought some years later, situated alongside Saint Isaiah House, which was for many years the home to the Jerusalem kehilla. A new home was found for the association in downtown Jerusalem.

The Albert Decoutray Institute, (Christian Institute for Jewish Studies and Hebrew Literature), directed by Father Michel Remaud, member of the Jerusalem kehilla, is housed in Beit Marom. It was the Institute that organized the evening consecrated to French Jewish thinker Andre Neher, which served as an inauguration of Beit Marom in its new premises.

Association chairwoman, Cecile Pilverdier opened the evening by recalling the figure of Marion Reich and the mission of the Association (named for Marion Reich). Father Michel Remaud then spoke about the Albert Decoutray Institute (see website here). This was followed by three scholarly lectures on the thought and work of Andre Neher by three of the faculty of the Institute: Dr. Raniero Fontana, Rabbi Albin Michel and Eliezer Schilt.

Friends of the Association and the Institute, including a number of members of the kehilla, gathered in the new premises to celebrate this new stage in the life of the Association.
