The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple is the feast day of the Jerusalem kehilla that meets in a house that carries the names of Saints Simeon and Anne.

On Sunday, February 2, 2014, the members of the Jerusalem kehilla together with many guests gathered to celebrate the Feast of the Presentation and especially the two saints of this day, Simeon and Anne, the two faithful witnesses who waited to see the coming of the Messiah.

The celebrant at the feast this year was Father Apolinary, responsible for the Jaffa kehilla, formerly responsible for the Jerusalem kehilla. The faithful gathered in the vestibule of the chapel and Father Apolinary blessed the lit candles. The faithful proceeded into the chapel singing “Light for the nations, glory of your people Israel, Jesus we praise you”.

In the homily, Father Apolinary revealed that this feast has a special place in his heart because Simeon and Anne are not two distant figures but very alive in his spiritual life. Evoking them evokes the Jerusalem kehilla, characterized by the atmosphere of prayer and faith.

During the prayers of the faithful, the members of the kehilla also gave thanks for the house and for the Franciscans who have entrusted it to the Hebrew speaking Catholic community. Prayers were also offered for the elderly and especially those suffering from illness.

After the mass, a reception brought those present together to share food and drink and deepen friendship. Happy feast!
