Memorial for our sister Miriam z”l

Today, January 31, 2014, we gathered in Jaffa’s cemetery for the memorial service on the anniversary of the death of our sister Miriam, who passed away two years ago.

The ceremony was conducted by Father Apolinary, responsible for the Hebrew speaking Catholic community in Jaffa. Miriam loved this community, was one of its founders and contributed greatly and in many ways to the life of the community over the years. Both Father Paul from Jerusalem (who had been responsible in Jaffa many years ago) and Father Gregor, who knew Miriam very well, participated in the prayer. There were also friends of Miriam who came and at their head Sister Eugenie, who had lived in the same convent of Saint Joseph in Jaffa, with Miriam, and now lives in Jerusalem. There were members of the Jaffa community and other close friends as well.

The ceremony was simple and beautiful, just as Miriam loved things to be. On this winter day, the sun shone for her. There is no doubt that she was smiling and saying “thank you!”
