On Wednesday, November 13, 2013, in the apartment block for the elderly, “Golden Age Home”, in Haifa, a ceremony to commemorate the liberation of the Ukraine was held. In this home, our sister, recognized as a Righteous among the Nations, Jaroslawa Lewicki, known to us all as Slawa, lives. In the first part of the ceremony a short film was screened that described the end of the Second World War in the Ukraine. After that, one of the Ukrainian soldiers who had fought in the struggle for the liberation of the Ukraine spoke, he too a resident of the home for the elderly.

The second part of the ceremony was dedicated to Slawa and her family. On the big screen, a film was shown that told the history of the town Zolochiv, where Slawa is from. During the Second World War, many Jews from Zolochiv were murdered. The Lewicki family succeeded in saving 25 persecuted Jews. Even though Slawa was a small girl at the time, she drew the attention of many of those who were guests and whose lives were in danger. In the ceremony to honor Slawa, the wife of one of those saved by her family was present. Some of the members of the Haifa kehilla were also present.

In the photo, Slawa is with Stella.
