On Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the end of the closing mass of the WYD, Pope Francis announced that the next WYD would take place in Cracow, Poland.
Just as his final World Youth Day mass was drawing to a close, Pope Francis announced that the next WYD celebration will take place in Krakow, Poland, in 2016. Blessed John Paul II launched WYD. In a way this location will honor the Polish Pope, especially since he was very fond of the city, having served as its archbishop from 1964 to 1978.
