Beatification of Odoardo Focherini
On Saturday, June 15, 2013, Odoardo Focherini will be declared blessed in his hometown of Carpi in northern Italy.
Focherini was a journalist and during the Second World War he saved more than one hundred Jews by helping them cross the Italian border with false documents. After being detained by the Nazis, he died in a concentration camp from disease.
