New Archbishop of Tunis from the Holy Land


Today, February 21, 2013, the Holy Father announced the nomination of a new archbishop for the diocese of Tunis, Father Ilario Antoniazzi, present parish priest of Rameh in Galilee.

Father Ilario replaces Archbishop Maroun Lahham as Archbishop of Tunis, following the latter’s nomination as Auxiliary Bishop in Amman, Jordan in January 2012.

Father Ilario was born in 1948 in Italy and entered the Minor Seminary in Beit Jala in 1962. He was ordained a priest in Jerusalem in 1972. Until 1992, he served as parish priest in different parishes in Jordan. In 1995, he completed studies in spiritual theology in Rome. He returned to the Holy Land and served as parish priest in Rameh and Reineh. In 2011, he was named director general of the Latin Patriarchate schools in Israel.

His Episcopal ordination will be held on March 16, 2013 in Nazareth.
