New friends – Knights from the USA

From Thursday, February 7 until Thursday February 14, 2013, Lady Cecilia (Cia) and Sir Sanford (Sandy) Lakin from Michigan, USA, Knights of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher, visited the Saint James Vicariate.

Cia and Sandy, both advocates by profession, recently professed Knights of the Holy Sepulcher, made a rather unique pilgrimage to the Holy Land. They spent a week living in the Saint James Vicariate for Hebrew Speaking Catholics in Israel, sharing the day to day life of the Vicariate community, prayer, meals, communal life. During their week stay, they were able to visit some of the Hebrew speaking communities – celebrating Sunday mass on Saturday evening in Jaffa, Sunday mass in Jerusalem, Ash Wednesday mass in Beer Sheba and a visit to Haifa as well. They were also able to spend time with a variety of people in the kehillot and were guided by Father Piotr, responsible for the Jerusalem kehilla.

Cia and Sandy had met Father David, Vicar for the Hebrew Speaking Catholics, in Indianapolis last year at a convention of the Knights. It was then that they expressed their interest in learning more about the world of the kehillot.

A traditional part of their visit included receiving the pilgrim's shell at the Latin Patriarchate from Bishop William Shomali.

We give thanks for new friends!
