New Israeli ambassador received by Pope


On Friday, September 28, 2012, the new Israeli ambassador to the Holy See was received in audience by Pope Benedict XVI.

Pope Benedict XVI received Israel's new ambassador to the Holy See, Zion Evrony, on the occasion of the presentation of his letters of credence.

Evrony was appointed as ambassador to the Holy See July of this year. Diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Israel began in 1993 with the adoption of the Fundamental Accord by these two States.

Born in Iran, Evrony emigrated to Israel as a small child. He is married and has three children. With a degree in Sociology and Political Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he later specialized in International Relations and in Business Administration at the same University.

A professional diplomat, he has served previously as Consul in Houston, USA (1978-1983), Consul in New York, USA (1987-1991), Consul General in Houston, USA (1995-2002) and ambassador in Ireland (2006-2010).
